Seaworks Foundation

Seaworks Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation based in Williamstown, dedicated to preserving and celebrating Victoria’s rich maritime heritage. Operating from a 2.74-hectare historic site on the working port of Hobsons Bay, Seaworks manages a maritime museum, heritage buildings, and public events that connect the community to Melbourne’s seafaring past and future.

Our Mission:
To preserve Melbourne’s maritime heritage, inspire public engagement through exhibitions and programs, and raise awareness of ocean conservation through initiatives like the Ocean Photographer of the Year exhibition.

The Issue:
Melbourne’s maritime history is under-recognised despite its vital role in shaping the city’s identity. At the same time, awareness of ocean health and marine conservation is urgently needed. Seaworks addresses both—safeguarding heritage while engaging the public on critical environmental issues.

Why Seaworks:
With a proven track record of delivering high-impact exhibitions—including Steve McCurry ICONS, which attracted over 30,000 visitors—Seaworks effectively combines heritage, culture, and environmental education through visual storytelling and community programming.

Current Priorities:
Seaworks is focused on maintaining and conserving its heritage-listed assets, including the piers, former Williamstown Morgue, and 1880s maritime sheds. We are also developing a permanent gallery space for touring exhibitions, expanding our education programs, and enhancing interpretive signage across the site.

How Funding Helps:
Funding will support critical conservation works, infrastructure improvements, and delivery of exhibitions that educate, engage, and connect the community to Melbourne’s maritime and environmental legacy.
