SHARC is a leading lived expertise-led organisation, supporting people impacted by alcohol and other drugs, gambling, and related harm. SHARC operates across Victoria and increasingly on a national scale. Established as a not-for-profit in 1995, SHARC recognises that people impacted by alcohol and other drugs, gambling, and related harms, are experts in their own experience and must be front and centre of services and systems designed to support them.
Working with and supporting over 11,000 individuals and families annually, SHARC’s work involves a comprehensive range of programs, projects and services. Key program areas include:
– Residential Peer Programs (RPP:) offering residential-based programs for adults and young people, supporting them on their recovery journey with accommodation, counselling and life skills.
– Family Drug & Gambling Help (FDGH): providing practical help, information and support to families and friends affected by someone’s drinking, drug use or gambling.
– Association of Participating Service Users (APSU): ensuring that the opinions, ideas, and experiences of people who use alcohol and other drug services are central to policy, research, service provision, and professional development.
– Peer Projects: facilitating the growth, development, and sustainability of Victoria’s AOD lived experience workforces; and delivering an innovative Peer Mentors in Justice program across seven Victorian courts.
SHARC’s work is extensively supported by volunteers.
