SharingStories Foundation is a First Nations-led not-for-profit committed to protecting, preserving, and celebrating First Nations stories, languages, and cultural heritage.

The lasting impact of past policies has led to persistent racial dynamics, disparities, and divisions in society, communities and schools. First Nations voices are often marginalised and 60 thousand years of Culture dismissed as being unimportant in contemporary Australia. According to the third National Indigenous Languages Survey by AIATSIS (2018–2019), out of the 250 languages spoken prior to colonisation, there are only 123 spoken. Alarmingly, all are under threat, with 109 classified as endangered.

For over 14 years, SharingStories has worked alongside communities to co-create artistic, educational and media-based initiatives that centre on capturing cultural knowledge and languages. Our ways of working prioritises self determination and adheres to Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property standards. We uphold respectful practices honouring cultural ownership, fair compensation and time On Country to foster meaningful relationships.

Using a nationally recognised, community-led approach to strengthen the acquisition of culture and language, this funding will assist us to continue collaborating with First Nations partners, to ensure the preservation of cultural knowledge and revival of First nations languages for future generations, demonstrating the richness of a shared history.

Our initiatives have set benchmarks for excellence, earning multiple awards and national recognition. By deepening partnerships with First Nations Custodians and forming deep bonds with communities, we foster artistic and cultural growth, amplifying First Nations voices and contributing to a more diverse and vibrant landscape.
