Solar Citizens

Solar Citizens is a people-powered climate advocacy organisation building the public and political momentum needed to accelerate the clean energy transition. Since 2010, we have grown into a national movement of more than 200,000 Australians, representing people already powering their lives with rooftop solar and those who want access to affordable, clean energy and transport.

Our vision is a world that prioritises affordable, renewable energy and clean transport, where every home, business and community can participate and benefit. Our mission is to champion people-led energy systems that reduce the cost of living and harmful emissions, enabling global leadership towards a fast, fair and inclusive energy transition.

We turn public support for small-scale clean energy into durable policy outcomes by combining community power, policy expertise and strategic campaigning. We translate complex reform into everyday impact; organise people into political power; build alliances across civil society, industry and government; sustain narrative and political pressure; and develop credible, system-level solutions.

By 2029, we aim to double rooftop solar backed by storage. We will strengthen consumer advocacy and fair energy-market rules; dramatically scale rooftop solar and storage; expand access for renters, apartments and social housing; accelerate batteries, electric vehicles and clean transport; and ensure the transition increases equity and community resilience.

We are also taking Australia’s people-powered energy success global, building alliances to accelerate rooftop solar and storage internationally. Ultimately, we are working to shift power from fossil fuels controlled by a few to clean energy owned, used and shaped by the many.
