Solar Citizens is an independent, non-partisan, community-powered organisation, funded 100% by tax-deductible donations. Since 2013, we’ve grown into a movement of over 200,000 supporters, representing more than 4.3 million Australian households already powering their lives with the sun; and working hard to remove barriers for everyone locked out of rooftop solar savings.

We are working to make sure everyone, everywhere can access affordable solar and battery storage, to create more resilient homes, and drive down energy bills and carbon emissions simultaneously. Through community-led advocacy, policy development, lobbying, and grassroots campaigning, we’ve helped deliver real-world wins for households and the climate, including most recently the federal home battery rebate in 2025, making clean energy accessible day and night; and Australia’s first New Vehicle Efficiency Strategy in 2024, unlocking more affordable EVs for Australians.

We’re working to double Australia’s rooftop solar capacity by 2035, expand battery storage, and ensure no one is left behind in the clean energy transition. This includes campaigning to unlock solar and batteries for renters and apartment dwellers, and advocating for the establishment of Urban Renewable Energy Zones (UREZs) so our cities and towns are more energy self-sufficient.

Our campaigns are helping to create an energy system where households and businesses are active participants, shaping a safer, fairer, more liveable future while positioning Australia as a global leader in consumer led rooftop solar.
