The Sudd Foundation is a community-led non-profit dedicated to changing the narrative around South Sudanese youth in Australia and unlocking their potential. Founded in 2017 and named after the Sudd wetlands, a symbol of resilience, strength, and protection, our foundation draws inspiration from the land and culture of South Sudan. “Sudd” means “barrier” in Arabic, signifying our commitment to safeguarding and empowering our community.
Our vision is a future where South Sudanese Australians are recognised for their contribution and promise. Our mission is to deliver culturally relevant, safe, and sustainable programs for disengaged youth, including those leaving the youth justice system, and to provide support for young women and mothers. We work closely with community leaders to ensure our programs meet real needs and foster unity.
Our priorities for the coming year include expanding education and employment pathways, supporting young mothers, and deepening cultural connections. Funding will enable us to scale our mentoring and leadership initiatives, directly impacting more youth through education, job training, and community events. In the past year alone, our programs have helped dozens of young people re-engage with school and secured their first jobs.
