Since 1968, the Tasmanian Conservation Trust has been working to protect and preserve Tasmania’s unique biodiversity as well as its built heritage. The trust plays a vital role in the protection of Precipitous Bluff, the creation of Wellington Park on kunanyi/Mt Wellington, as well as creating environmental protection legislation at federal, state and council levels of government. The Trust has also been paramount in the success of campaigns against the Supertrawler, the Gunns Tamar Valley Pulp Mill, and many others. They have run tyre clean ups, weed reduction working bees and community engagement on cat management.
They offer community groups support and strategic guidance on tackling developments and environmental issues in their local areas. This has resulted in working with proponents and councils to make a development acceptable, and in some cases seeing the development defeated entirely.
The Tas Conservation Trust has recently picked up the mantle of Climate Change with a focus on the all important area of emissions reduction, looking at anywhere and everywhere this can be achieved in the state. They need your help to keep up this important work, so please consider making a tax deductible donation, or visit their website for more ways you can be involved.
