Team Connect WA

Team Connect is an early intervention program to improve wellbeing and foster a sense of belonging for teenage girls at risk of social isolation and educational disadvantage. Our volunteer run charity provides opportunity and a safe environment for vulnerable girls to thrive – building brighter futures for girls who might otherwise miss out.

Team Connect was founded by Margie Oldfield through identifying the inequity of opportunity across Perth for teenage girls experiencing barriers to participation in community activities.

Our mission is to break the cycle of disadvantage by improving confidence, belonging and the outlook for employability for at-risk teenage girls. We rely solely on donations and grants to operate. Community cricket is as the starting point to create social connection, positive role models and teach life skills. For the girls it's about fun, connection, belonging, equity and empowerment.

Our program is a unique cross-community collaboration. Since 2018, we’ve partnered with government high schools, families, cricket clubs and volunteers to support girls aged 12–15 who otherwise miss out on the experience of community sport while making friends, reengaging with education and gaining skills for life.

We combine youth work, mentoring and community sport to remove barriers to participation like social isolation, family instability, new migrant experience or financial hardships, so girls can show up, join in and thrive for free.

Our program logic is simple, social impact is direct and outcomes measurable. We love growing our supporter network to enable us to reach more girls in need.
