The 2h Project’s purpose is to put an end to preventable maternal death and injury.
Our mission is to ensure high-quality maternal care is available for every woman – no matter where she lives.
Our aim is to connect Australian health volunteers with their colleagues in low-resourced settings, to grow the professional capacity of frontline maternal health workers and to embed excellence in maternal health practice so that outcomes are improved, performance is enhanced, standards are maintained and the disparity is reduced.
Since our program inception in 2009, we’ve made significant strides in our grassroots efforts, having trained over 4,000 birth attendants across Cambodia. Working hand-in-hand with local health departments and the Cambodian Ministry of Health, our programs have consistently yielded long-term, high-impact results, bolstering capacity and saving lives.
Central to our approach is a steadfast commitment to women’s rights, particularly in the realms of human, reproductive, and sexual health. We recognise pregnancy and childbirth as profound experiences with profound implications for women, their families, and their communities.
Our evidence-based initiatives are not only cost-effective but also resilient in the face of challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic. By leveraging the expertise of Australian volunteers within existing health systems, we deliver substantial value at minimal expense.
Currently, our professional development training enhances maternal health services for a combined population of nearly 400,000 people, safeguarding over 12,000 vulnerable pregnant women and their babies every year.
