The Break is a non-discriminatory not-for-profit organization, established in 2002 in St Kilda East. Our mission is to build a prosocial, inclusive community, fostering resilience and connection to ensure no one falls through societal gaps. Our vision is to transform perceptions of addiction, mental health, and disability through innovative approaches with cultural sensitivity. We address critical issues like addiction, mental health, loneliness, and social disconnection by offering flexible, community-integrated day programs that empower participants with proactive skills for real-world application.
Our evidence-based programs, informed by extensive international research, have demonstrated impact, including a youth diversion pilot with 0% recidivism over six months and successful anger management interventions for Indigenous offenders. Current priorities include expanding our day programs, enhancing counselling services, and continuing the Memoir Project to amplify marginalized voices. Funding will support program scaling, volunteer training, and operational costs, ensuring sustainable community impact.
By addressing overlooked social issues with innovative, inclusive solutions, The Break remains committed to empowering individuals and strengthening communities across Melbourne.
