The Hub Foundation

The Hub Foundation (THF) is a small not-for-profit organisation based in Castlemaine, Victoria. In our own small way we want to help tackle climate change, locally with practical and achievable ideas to make a difference now and into the future.

YIMBYcompost.com – Yes in My Backyard is the current major project. Operating since 2022, YIMBY aims to build resilient communities; to reduce carbon emissions from organics in landfill; and to grow the availability of local good soil, with compost. This is achieved through recruiting and training community composters to compost in their own homes, for their neighbours using a unique hot composting system. YIMBY currently composts for almost 400 households with 27 active composters, growing daily. Working closely with the local Council, YIMBY aims to lead the way for communities managing their own organic, defying the trend of large scale commercial operations that results in loss of resource and skill in local communities.

The Hub’s biggest project so far was MASH (Mount Alexander Solar Homes Project), a solar panels bulk-buy offer for people to reduce their electricity bills and cut their CO2 emissions. Over 900 systems were installed in four
years up to 2018 when the project was handed over to the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance.

– The Paddock Eco Village, by Founders of THF Heather and Neil Barrett whose significant work for Climate Action was acknowledged in 2021 through an Order of Australia.
