The Lost Dogs’ Home is Victoria’s oldest animal shelter, providing care and compassion to over 18,000 animals each year. As an open-intake shelter, no animal is turned away based on health, and most require some level of veterinary care. In 2023–24, we delivered 88,306 veterinary procedures and treatments, marking a 22% increase from the previous year.
We work across metropolitan and regional Victoria in partnership with 16 councils, community groups, and animal welfare organisations. In response to rising cost-of-living pressures, which have led to an increase in pet surrenders (including 118 cases annually due to financial hardship) we have expanded our community support programs.
Our Home Together Program prevents pet surrenders by addressing barriers faced by vulnerable owners and has helped over 230 people and their pets, including those escaping family violence or experiencing homelessness. Our Dogs in the Park Program has supported 426 dogs and their owners through free events in local parks.
