The Lumina Project
Field of Interest
- Health/wellbeing and medical research
- Individual/family services and support
Target Population
- People experiencing socio-economic disadvantage or vulnerability
The Lumina Project provides one-off emergency financial assistance to parents following the death of a child.
When a child dies, families often face immediate financial pressure from funeral costs, time away from work, and essential household expenses at the same time as profound grief. While emotional and peer support services exist, there is very limited practical financial stabilisation available in the first days and weeks after loss.
Lumina provides a single direct payment to help stabilise families during this initial period. Support is referral-based and trauma-informed, ensuring funds are delivered quickly, with dignity, and with minimal administrative burden.
Based in Victoria and operating nationally, Lumina is building a carefully governed Emergency Response Fund designed to respond rapidly while maintaining strong financial oversight and transparent reporting.
A contribution of $1,000 enables Lumina to provide direct support to a family, helping relieve immediate financial pressure during the earliest stage of grief
