The Nappy Collective is focused on reducing the impact of nappy stress in Australia, which is the
experience of families not having enough nappies to change their children as often as they need to. We
currently estimate around 280,000 children across Australia in 150,000 families are affected by nappy
stress in any given year.
It is also worsening over time, having increased by 12% since our last estimate. Finally, it is also costly, with families having a total nappy need of more than 430 million nappies, at a cost of approximately $138-215 million annually. A sole parent living on the poverty line may need to spend as much as 9% of their weekly disposable income on nappies.
We are Australia’s only charity dedicated to redistributing nappies to families in need
and women in crisis. Our vision is that every child in Australia has enough nappies to remain healthy and happy, and to provide nappies for children experiencing disadvantage across Australia by mobilising communities, raising funds, and encouraging social change.
We offer parents a collective opportunity to support families in need by donating their leftover, spare
nappies. We run biannual and year-round collectives for donations of leftover, unused nappies that
otherwise may be thrown out.
