The One Box

The One Box is a national not-for-profit addressing a critical gap in Australia’s food security system: families lack reliable access to fresh, nutritious food, undermining children’s health, wellbeing and ability to learn .

Our model delivers weekly boxes of fresh (not rescued) fruit and vegetables through trusted school wellbeing teams. This design drives three linked outcomes. First, nutritional stability—fresh food lasts the full week, supporting children’s lunchboxes and family meals. Second, financial relief—families save on groceries, easing cost-of-living pressure. Third, accessible, dignified delivery—collection at school removes transport, distance and stigma barriers.

Critically, this is not just food relief for children. By feeding the whole household, the model stabilises the family system—creating the conditions for improved wellbeing, reduced stress and stronger engagement with school and community.

The model is intentionally structured as a pathway to independence, not dependency. Weekly collection builds trusted relationships with school wellbeing teams, enabling early identification of need and warm referrals to financial counselling, housing, mental health and employment services. Families are supported through acute periods and transition out, with support reallocated—multiplying impact.

The One Box complements existing food relief by providing consistent access to fresh food embedded in community relationships.

Our impact is enabled by commercial backing from The Fruit Box Group—contributing infrastructure, supply chains and ~27% of costs—and strengthened by a reinvesting social enterprise, allowing scalable, efficient growth.

Our priority is to sustain families in schools in the current program, expand to reach waitlisted schools, and scale reach nationally to regional and remote areas.
