Organisation Summary

Our mission is to unlock the power of young people to shape their own lives.

We know that mental illness can strike early. This is why the World Health Organisation has identified adolescence as a crucial time for mental health promotion, prevention, and early intervention – and this is where Reach steps in. By building known protective factors for good mental health – including self-awareness, empathy, connection, hope, meaning and positive relationships, we can help young people navigate the challenges of life, and in turn reduce the development and/or severity of mental health problems and illness in the future.

Reach’s work is preventative in nature, building the mental health resilience in young people aged 10 to 18, by giving them the social and emotional protective skills to face life’s challenges, no matter where they live or their situation. Adolescence is a crucial time for mental health promotion, prevention, and early intervention. Two in every five Australians aged between 16 to 24 reports experiencing a mental disorder.

Reach works annually with 40,000 young people through our unique, youth-led school workshops, community programs and camps, designed and delivered by our young crew of facilitators supported by a team of psychologists and social workers. Since 1994 we have supported more than 1 million young people develop the skills for good mental health. We’ve scaled our impact thanks to a network of volunteers, teachers and community supporters that are passionate about supporting young people to thrive. This support extends across regional Australia.
