United Nations Association Australia - Victorian Division (auspice: Australian Institute of International Affairs)

The United Nations Association of Australia is a member of the World Federation of United Nation Associations (WFUNA), which is a global non-profit organisation representing and coordinating a membership of over 100 national United Nations Associations.

UN Associations are not funded by the United Nations, but WUFUNA has category one consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council and consultative or liaison links with many other UN organisations and agencies. WUFUNA works to strengthen and improve the work of the United Nations by engaging global citizens.

UNAA Victoria’s mission is to bring the work of the United Nations to the community via our Global Education Program, our International Study Tours to the UN and our Engaging with the SDGs Program. All our funding occurs via these programs. One UN Study Tour participant said they would highly recommend the tour to anyone “with an interest in the values of the United Nations and a strong interest in learning what you can do to be a good global citizen of the world”.

For Australia, the UN represents an opportunity to engage on matters of global concern and develop constructive partnerships with countries with which we have no direct or strategic links. The UN is also the forum where international peace and security, sustainable development, self-determination, and humanitarian assistance are pursued. These are all important issues for Australia.
