Organisation Summary

Wakakirri Story Dance Association is one of Australia’s largest school-based performing arts programs, engaging thousands of students each year through Story-Dance.

While the program is widely recognised for its creative outcomes, a deeper impact has consistently emerged through teacher feedback: Wakakirri builds friendships, strengthens teamwork, and creates a sense of belonging among students.

At a time when schools are facing increasing challenges related to student disconnection and wellbeing, Wakakirri presents a scalable, evidence-informed solution.

The Wakakirri Friendship Project formalises this impact, positioning Wakakirri as both a performing arts program and a national social development initiative delivered through creativity.
