Weight Issues Network

Weight Issues Network (WIN) is a small, yet powerful charity advocating for adequate, stigma-free treatment and support for persons living in larger bodies. Currently, it is very difficult for people who have comorbidities related to, or resulting from excess body weight to gain access to healthcare that provides a stigma-free environment and who implement positive and effective treatment options.

Lived experience members of WIN have shared harrowing stories of stigma, being ignored/sent away, and even medically treated incorrectly. All too often we are told that it is simply eat less and move more, when research now shows the myriad of issues related to medical conditions, past traumas and many other issues that lead to excess body weight. This advice negates the barriers, ignores the psychological issues and simply undermines the patient.

WIN are working with researchers, policy-makers and the medical industry to work towards a better future for anyone who experiences higher weight. We are working with our members to empower agency in their own healthcare and confidence in seeking the right help. We need to build our members’ confidence and strength to advocate in a stronger and more effective manner, as traumatic events related to living in a larger body has set many back. We need more people on the ground, sharing their stories so that positive change can happen.
