Freeling Senior Citizens Club – Organisation Summary
The Freeling Senior Citizens Club is a community-led initiative dedicated to re-establishing a welcoming and inclusive social hub for older residents of Freeling and surrounding rural areas in South Australia.
Our vision is to foster a connected, supportive community where older people feel valued, respected and actively engaged. Our mission is to reduce social isolation, promote wellbeing, and create meaningful opportunities for seniors to participate in social, recreational and community activities, based at Wheatfields Aged care .
Rural communities face increasing challenges associated with ageing populations, reduced services and limited transport options. Since the closure of the former Senior Citizens Club, there has been no dedicated space specifically for older residents to gather regularly. This has contributed to increased loneliness and fewer opportunities for connection.
The re-establishment of the Club will provide structured weekly activities, social gatherings and wellbeing programs in a safe, accessible environment. It will also create opportunities for local volunteering and intergenerational engagement, strengthening community connectedness.
Our leadership team brings strong experience in governance, financial oversight, community program development and safe service delivery for older Australians. We are well-connected locally and committed to ensuring the Club operates sustainably and transparently.
Grant funding will support venue costs, insurance, activity resources, equipment, volunteer coordination and community promotion. This investment will enable the Club to reopen in a structured and sustainable way, delivering long-term social and wellbeing benefits to older residents and the broader Freeling community.
