Wollongong Meals on Wheels (WMoW) exists to help people maintain independence and improve their health and wellbeing—especially amid rising living costs, housing pressures, and growing healthcare needs. With over 60 years of experience, we support vulnerable individuals, particularly those on low or fixed incomes, by providing high-quality, nutritious meals tailored to their dietary needs.
Meals are prepared according to national guidelines and delivered directly to clients’ homes through a flexible delivery model that promotes autonomy and safety. Many of our clients face food insecurity, social isolation, and limited access to essential services—conditions worsened by financial hardship or disability. Our trained volunteers provide more than just meals: they offer companionship, conduct wellbeing checks, and connect clients to relevant support services.
This holistic approach supports both physical and mental wellbeing, reducing loneliness and fostering stronger community ties. By encouraging early intervention and regular social contact, we help prevent health crises, reduce emergency callouts, and improve access to care.
Volunteer engagement is central to our mission. Volunteers provide essential emotional and practical support, helping clients stay nourished, connected, and independent. Their meaningful contributions foster a shared sense of purpose, building a more compassionate and resilient community.
We also prioritise volunteer retention by encouraging community involvement and recognising in-kind contributions. This strengthens long-term social inclusion and ensures our service remains responsive and sustainable supporting those who need it most, when they need it most.
