Women With Disabilities ACT (WWDACT) is a Disabled People’s Organisation (DPO) led by and for women, girls, and non-binary people* with disabilities in the ACT. We are grounded in lived experience, intersectional feminism, and human rights principles, including the CRPD and CEDAW.
Our Vision is for women* with disabilities to have equal rights and to be valued, respected, and empowered so they can thrive.
Our Mission is to advance and uphold the rights to freedom, health and dignity of women* with disabilities through systemic advocacy.
Women* with disabilities face higher rates of violence, discrimination, and exclusion from health, housing, education, employment, and decision-making. Despite this, their voices are often overlooked.
WWDACT is best placed to lead this work as the ACT’s only DPO focused on women* with disabilities. Our advocacy is directly informed by our members lived experiences. We influence policies across areas such as safety, health access, and social inclusion. We have successfully contributed to inclusive policy development, developed Cultural Load policies, and facilitated impactful consultations and forums.
Our Current Priorities:
- Advocate for safety from violence and equitable access to health and wellbeing services for women* with disabilities.
- Ensure government policies are informed by lived experience.
- Build a sustainable, values-driven organisation.
Funding will directly support us to:
- Engage more deeply with our members through paid consultation, forums, and accessible outreach.
- Advocate more effectively to ACT Government on issues like safety, housing, and health care.
- Maintain our peer support and capacity building programs.
