World Beyond War Australia

WBWA is the Australian chapter of a global movement to end all forms of collective social violence, especially that characterised by war, and to establish an international regime where all people are able to live free from such violence and abuse.

The statement of purposes of WBWA, as set out in its constitution, includes:
• addressing the causes of violence and abuse in society;
• promoting institutions, mechanisms, processes and actions that can prevent or control and mitigate the consequences of such violence; and
• providing assistance and support to those who are the victims of collective social violence and abuse.

Members of WBWA, for a number of years, have been part of an international group engaged in bringing almost fifty former Afghan Peace Volunteers (APVs) (referenced in Mark Isaac’s book, Kabul Peace House) to safety in a third country. This has included resettlement of 25 former APVs in Portugal and supporting others to successfully achieve asylum in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Finland. WBWA continues to work with Rosemary Morrow, the founder of Permaculture for Refugees, in providing permaculture training to those displaced by war in refugee camps and in producing emergency ‘first aid’ materials to help alleviate distress.
