WWILD Sexual Violence Prevention Association is a Brisbane-based non-profit organisation that works to achieve social justice and systemic change that upholds the rights of people with intellectual and learning disabilities to live free from violence.
WWILD was formed in 1998 due to the high rates of sexual violence being experienced by young women with intellectual disability in the community. Today WWILD supports people with intellectual and learning disabilties or all genders across Greater Brisbane, and provides state-wide phone support and referral. Through our two main programs we provide victims of crime recovery support to victims of violent crime, primarliy sexual violence and domestic violence.
As the only service of our kind in Australia we have a strong focus on capacity building, providing training across the community sector and government bodies, and working alongside people with lived experience of disbaility and violence to develop accessible resources to improve information and service provision.
WWILD – Sexual Violence Prevention Association Inc. is an organization underpinned by feminist and community development frameworks which:
– Recognises the gendered nature of violence.
– Believes in working alongside people with intellectual and learning disabilities to enhance their power and choices in a safe environment.
– Believes in their worth and capacity by actively encouraging their participation in personal and political change.
– Believes in supporting them to achieve self determination.
