Queensland Youth Connections Indigenous Corporation
Queensland Youth Connections (QYC) is a Townsville-based organisation formed in 2020 to help break the cycle of unemployment and poor education outcomes for Indigenous young people. Our mission is to prepare young people for employment or further education and equip them to live well and contribute positively to their community
Project Summary
Blak Brew Haus is a First Nations–led social enterprise that uses a mobile coffee trailer to provide meaningful employment, training, and mentoring opportunities for young people. Many of the young people we work with face barriers to entering and sustaining employment. This project responds by creating a supportive pathway where young people can learn, practise, and grow in a real workplace environment while being guided by a dedicated manager who will also act as a mentor.
Through this funding, we will employ a Manager/Mentor to oversee the enterprise and provide one-on-one support to participants, ensuring they gain not only job skills but also confidence, resilience, and the ability to navigate challenges in the workforce. Funding will also be used to cover accredited training relevant to hospitality and retail, along with uniforms and equipment to ensure young people are work-ready and professional in their roles.
Blak Brew Haus will provide practical experience in customer service, barista skills, teamwork, and small business operations. This hands-on learning is complemented by structured mentoring, which helps young people explore career options, recover from setbacks, and build long-term goals.
Importantly, all profits generated through the coffee trailer will be reinvested back into our not-for-profit organisation, ensuring the enterprise is sustainable and continues to create opportunities for future participants. In the long term, Blak Brew Haus aims to increase employment pathways for First Nations young people, foster pride and cultural strength, and strengthen our community through meaningful, skill-building opportunities.
