Bathurst Early Childhood Intervention Servide
The first service of its kind to be established west of the Blue Mountains in 1981, Bathurst Early Childhood Intervention Service (BECIS) has been an integral part of Bathurst and its surrounding community for over 40 years.
We are a not-for-profit organisation and registered NDIS provider that employs educators and therapists to partner with parents/caregivers in providing support, resources and information tailored to meet the needs of children and the family as a whole.
Our vision is for a fairer and more inclusive community where all children have a clear pathway to access resources and support, enabling them to reach their full potential. BECIS works in partnership with families and communities to build an inclusive life for children with differing abilities by providing holistic, flexible and innovative early childhood intervention programs in a supportive setting.
We strive to provide a high-quality, individualised service promoting inclusion and are passionate about the provision of evidence-based early childhood intervention and the benefits it provides to children.
We are flexible and responsive to the individual needs of each child and family within their community. Working collaboratively with all partnerships to achieve the best outcomes for each child and family. Ensuring we work with honesty and integrity to provide a non judgemental and respectful service.
BECIS also offers professional training opportunities for early childhood services and sector professionals. The service is an incorporated body run by a volunteer and community Board.
Project Summary
Bright Start with BECIS is a program designed to build a family’s capacity to set their child/children up for a “bright start” to life. The program will be a one hour weekly Playgroup in school terms, facilitated by our Early Childhood Experts (Early Interventionists), Speech Pathologists and Allied Health Assistants.
The program will be accessed by families and children 0–18 months of age who are seeking supports. Each session will focus on play and connection for babies and families. Our experts will educate, support and build a family's capacity on a variety of topics such as play, sleep, language, physical development, emotions, feeding and taking care of ourselves and our family.
Through consultation with Bathurst Community Health Service, both organisations have recognised the need for a program like “Brightstart". We have their full support in establishing this program in an attempt to capture families of disadvantaged children who may be sitting on waiting lists for months, sometimes years to access various types of support. “Brightstart” would enable us to support these families who are in need of urgent support.
Research shows, the earlier early childhood expert intervention occurs, the better outcomes for children, this program would provide a vital connection between families and BECIS, allowing us to assist them in this important stage of their child/children’s development and future.
