Red Dust Role Models
Red Dust inspires remote Indigenous communities through a unique ‘community-as-family’ model of health and well-being programs. For over thirty years we have walked alongside community leaders and Elders to create a stronger future for youth and their families. We draw on the strengths of both western health knowledge and traditional cultural knowledges that influence youth in community. Our positive role models combined with engaging, high-impact programs help build resilience in young people and inspire them to identify and pursue their dreams. We also work together with Australians more broadly to build cross-cultural competency through training and immersion experiences.
Project Summary
Red Dust engagement and working together with remote First Nations communities dates back 30 years. As we celebrate this milestone in 2026 we are building a solution to safeguard, organise, and mobilise our extensive library of photos, videos, artwork, program materials, and cultural content. This project will provide a central, secure, and culturally respectful platform to manage digital assets, enabling Red Dust to amplify impact stories, protect Indigenous cultural protocols, and streamline communications with funders, partners, and communities.
Supporting this project will:
• Directly contribute to Indigenous Data Sovereignty by ensuring community control over cultural content.
• Strengthen Red Dust’s ability to tell powerful impact stories that inspire donors, schools, and partners.
• Build long-term sustainability by investing in operational infrastructure that underpins fundraising, communications, and evaluation.
• Enhance accountability and transparency through accurate, accessible reporting.
Project Outcomes
Investment in a Digital Asset Management platform with Australian data storage and cultural governance features will:
• Centralise content – One secure, searchable hub for all program, media, and archival assets.
• Respect cultural protocols – Ability to set permissions (e.g., gender, community, seasonal restrictions) to ensure assets are used appropriately.
• Increase efficiency – Reduce administration time spent searching for assets, enabling staff to focus on delivering programs and building partnerships.
• Strengthen partnerships – Provide partners with access to approved, brand-aligned content, improving reporting and demonstrating impact.
• Preserve heritage – Protect and archive Red Dust’s 20-year history of community collaboration for future generations.
