Project Summary
The “Jobs Café” concept (there is no physical Jobs Café!) evolved as a response to recognising the significant number of people demoralised by constant rejection in their efforts to secure work and the acknowledgment that in our community the establishment and maintenance of a person’s dignity is tied to being employed.
The project began as a stand-alone exercise in late August 2019: to date there are 1249 job-seeking registrants (people from diverse cultures, indigenous, refugees, migrants, homeless persons, those differently-abled, men and women, old and young…) and 478 have reported securing positions….plus a network of 757 contacts all contributing at various levels.
MCCSA Jobs Café, as it is now also uses its networks to add possible opportunities and then encourages and assists the job seeker in pursuing and securing them. It is a purely voluntary exercise and there is no connection with the bureaucracy….it simply aims to help in this particular area of community need.
And for those seeking to participate and tap into what is being offered there is only one simple requisite: “Just walk through the virtual door of MCCSA Jobs Café!”
The expanded project aims to establish four more community bases where the concentrations of job seekers are identified as highest in the Adelaide metropolitan area: Kilburn, Salisbury, Findon and Marion. This will provide attractive and accessible support to those people who are not availing themselves of what is currently centred in the City and Stepney.
A key aim is to recruit four zealots to manage the new MCCSA Jobs Café ventures: a voluntary undertaking…following on from the current mode of management.
Project Outcomes
Using the tried and tested templates in the four targeted sites it's projected that 1000 persons will seek the employment search preparation on offer. (A conservative estimate based on 30 persons attending each of eight events at the five sites).
The individuals will be followed up on a one – one coffee and chat basis.
A comprehensive spreadsheet will capture all relevant data and issue ongoing reports of progress at each centre and overall.
