Target Population

The Corowa and District S.H.E. Shed Inc is established to be an organisation whose purpose is to advance health and social welfare by operating as a women’s shed to:
- Provide meaningful activities in which women can participate while addressing mental, physical and emotional health issues in the company of others, thereby relieving isolation and loneliness.
- Undertake charitable activities for the benefit of the broader community.
Social isolation can be a considerable challenge for rural women, and since 2017 the SHE Shed has provided a supportive environment for fellowship, skills development and social gatherings.
Whether by joining a communal activity, working on a personal project with assistance from others, or just having a cuppa and chat, there is always team encouragement and support. We have seen this leading to an increased sense of achievement and confidence, further resulting in greater wellbeing and fulfilment. My own personal journey confirms the positive benefit to one’s mental health.
In contrast to most Men's Sheds, whose buildings are provided by Councils, we operated out of members’ garages for the first five years, and currently rent a commercial building (at very low rental). These premises provide us with the infrastructure needed to offer a range of projects and activities, including welding, woodwork, metalwork and mosaics.
Our incredible Shed Manager brings exceptional skills and endless patience (well mostly!) to everything she does. She's a wealth of knowledge and wholly dedicated to ensuring the ongoing success of the SHE Shed.
Project Summary
As the SHE Shed membership continues to grow, we require additional space to accommodate increasing participation.
We are now keen to extend the existing mezzanine floor over existing floor space.
This expansion will serve several purposes:
– Increase storage capacity for donated recyclable timber and mosaic supplies.
– Provide additional project workspace upstairs for the growing mosaics group.
– Enable the installation of new electrical circuitry, improved lighting and additional electrical outlets for the main workshop area.
– Form a roof to fully enclose the new Tool Room (built by members using a range of recycled materials and their acquired skills)
Overall, this extension would create a more functional and versatile environment that facilitates a greater level of participation, safety, and productivity.
Project Outcomes
Due to the unpredictable reach of our message and the level of potential interest it may generate in the future, it is challenging to accurately estimate the number of participants this project will benefit. However, we are excited about the opportunity to grow our community even further.
The most powerful indicator of our success is the growing number of women actively engaging in the activities and workshops we offer. Each participant represents a story of connection, learning, and personal growth, highlighting the impact of the SHE Shed in creating a supportive and inclusive environment.
As attendance continues to rise, it reflects not only the value of the skills and experiences provided but also the sense of community and belonging that women find here. These numbers tell a compelling story of how we are reducing social isolation, fostering friendships, and empowering women to explore new interests, develop skills, and contribute meaningfully to their lives.
By tracking participation, we gain a clear understanding of how our programs resonate with women and where we can continue to expand and improve to meet the needs of an ever-growing community.
It is our sincere hope that the Corowa and District SHE Shed can embrace every local woman and girl seeking the warmth of social interaction and our diverse range of activities. Our vision is one of an inclusive sanctuary, where every female person feels welcomed, valued, and empowered to participate in the broad range of experiences offered at the SHE Shed.
