At Rare Cancers Australia (RCA), our mission is to improve the lives and health outcomes of people affected by rare and less common cancers. We redefine cancer support, so no one is left behind or feels alone. Everyone is given the best possible chance to live beyond cancer.
We do whatever it takes to change the story of a rare cancer diagnosis through limitless support and advocacy. We drive change in access, affordability, and quality of care, ensuring better outcomes for the patients of today and tomorrow.
Project Summary
When a mum is diagnosed with cancer, her greatest wish is for her children’s wellbeing.
We help fulfill that wish by ensuring every child feels comforted, supported and close to mum through every stage of her cancer experience.
We give young children the gift of:
Comfort – teddy bears for kids to cuddle when mum can’t be there.
Understanding – storybooks to help kids make sense of what’s happening.
Time – practical support so mum has more time to spend with her kids.
We help to manage the distressing burden of cancer on mums and their families. Every mum that comes into our care receives one-on-one support from their own dedicated Mummy’s Wish Support Coordinator, who can walk them through every step of their cancer experience.
We believe that every mum diagnosed with cancer should feel supported so they can be there for their family. That’s why we offer tailored and practical support for mums with young children, anywhere in Australia, during any stage of their cancer experience.
Project Outcomes
Through the generosity of donors, philanthropic grants and in-kind support, we are striving towards three ambitious goals:
- Raise $42,000 to provide 1,200 books to 1,000 families;
- Raise 150,000 to provide 2,000 recordable bears into the arms of every child we support; and
- Raise $180,000 to get 1,200 mums diagnosed with cancer their own dedicated navigation support.
