Second Echo Ensemble (SEE) is a disability-led arts organisation based in lutruwita/Tasmania, dedicated to breaking down barriers in the arts and creating a more inclusive cultural landscape. Our mission is to amplify the voices of diverse artists, fostering their growth and leadership through mentorship, training, and performance opportunities. SEE works to celebrate every story, ensuring that the experiences of disabled artists are seen, heard, and valued in both local and global contexts.
SEE addresses the systemic inequality that has long marginalised artists by providing pathways to professional careers, skills development, and cross-industry collaboration. We believe that art is a catalyst for change, capable of creating a more equitable and connected world. Through our Pathways to Work program, residencies, and community projects, we empower individuals facing barriers such as neurodivergence and chronic health conditions to achieve lasting employment in the arts and beyond.
Our current priorities include expanding our Pathways to Work program to more regions, supporting emerging artists through mentorship, and creating new works that highlight the diversity and strength of our community. Funding will support the growth of these initiatives, enabling us to reach more artists, expand our impact, and further challenge societal perceptions of disability in the arts.
SEE is uniquely positioned to drive this change due to our extensive experience, national and international partnerships, and our unwavering commitment to inclusivity, visibility, and advocacy. We invite you to join us in creating a more diverse and transformative arts sector.
Project Summary
In 2025, Second Echo Ensemble (SEE) will present On Display Global at the United Nations in New York City, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to advocating for disability rights through the arts. This project will bring together SEE artists and collaborators from around the world to showcase the power of inclusive performance on an international stage. On Display Global is a pioneering initiative that explores the intersection of disability, visibility, and human rights through a distributed performance, reaching audiences across multiple continents and engaging communities in a meaningful dialogue about representation.
The project aims to amplify the voices of disabled artists and demonstrate the transformative potential of inclusive arts practices. By presenting On Display at the UN, we will highlight the global importance of disability inclusion and advocacy, fostering new connections and opportunities for disabled artists worldwide. The event will feature performances, discussions, and interactive installations, creating a platform for cross-cultural exchange and shared artistic experiences.
This project is critical because it offers a rare and impactful opportunity to challenge traditional narratives, elevate diverse perspectives, and shape the future of inclusive arts. SEE’s presence at the UN will not only raise awareness but also inspire meaningful change in how disability is viewed and understood globally. We invite supporters and funders to join us in making this groundbreaking event a reality, ensuring that the voices of disabled artists are heard on the world’s most influential stage.
Project Outcomes
In 2025, Second Echo Ensemble (SEE) will celebrate its 20th Anniversary by bringing On Display Global to the United Nations in New York City, marking a monumental moment in our 10-year collaboration with Heidi Latsky Dance (HLD). What started as a small performance in 2015 has grown into a powerful global movement, now involving over 60 countries, 40+ sites, and 2,000 performers—demonstrating the incredible potential of art to drive change and challenge perceptions of disability.
Through On Display Global, we aim to provide disabled artists with a platform to showcase their talents on the world stage, fostering international exchange and creating new opportunities for professional growth. Our mission is to inspire audiences across the globe to rethink what inclusion truly means, by giving voice to those whose stories are too often unheard.
We will know we have achieved our objectives through measurable outcomes, including the increase in participating countries and institutions, growth in the number of performance sites, and expanded audience reach.
Additionally, we will measure audience impact through feedback surveys, highlighting how the project shifts perceptions of disability and inclusion.
With your support, On Display Global will continue to push boundaries, create lasting connections, and empower disabled artists to reshape the future of the arts—one performance at a time.
