Project Summary

We are developing the Pathways Learning Space, a dedicated, culturally safe training and meeting area co-located with our short-stay accommodation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people visiting Darwin.

We are building this space to better support Aboriginal individuals and small groups who travel to Darwin for training, workshops, and community development programs. Many of our guests come from remote and regional areas and face barriers to accessing suitable learning environments while away from home. There are limited culturally appropriate spaces where people can gather, share knowledge, and learn in safety and comfort.

This new space will provide a flexible, multi-purpose facility where guests can participate in:

  • Structured training sessions
  • Group meetings and workshops
  • Yarning circles and cultural discussions
  • Community and wellbeing programs

Designed in consultation with local Aboriginal community members, the Pathways Learning Space will reflect cultural values and create a sense of belonging. It will be available for use by both our guests and partnering organisations that deliver training and support services in the region.

This project strengthens our commitment to providing not just a place to stay, but a place to grow. By removing barriers and supporting cultural safety, we aim to create a holistic environment that promotes learning, connection, and long-term empowerment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Project Outcomes

The goal of this project is to establish a culturally safe, purpose-built training and meeting space on-site at our short-stay accommodation facility, which is reserved exclusively for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people visiting Darwin for training and development opportunities.
We aim to reduce barriers to participation in training by providing a safe, supportive, and accessible environment for learning, yarning, and cultural connection—particularly for guests travelling from remote and regional communities.
Projected Outcomes:
Improved Access to Culturally Appropriate Training Facilities
Guests will benefit from an on-site, dedicated space for training and meetings, eliminating the need for additional travel while staying in Darwin.
Increased Training Participation and Completion Rates
By integrating accommodation and training in one location, the project will encourage higher attendance, engagement, and completion of training programs.
A Safe and Inclusive Learning Environment
The space will reflect cultural values and be developed with input from local Aboriginal stakeholders, ensuring it is welcoming and respectful for all users.
Stronger Community and Organisational Engagement
Local Aboriginal organisations and training providers will have access to a central, culturally safe venue to deliver programs and connect with clients.
Long-Term Empowerment and Capacity Building
Guests will leave with increased skills, confidence, and readiness to pursue further education or employment opportunities.
Measuring Success:
We will know we’ve achieved these outcomes through:
Completion and regular use of the training space
Participant feedback indicating satisfaction and cultural safety
Increased usage by training providers and partner organisations
Higher rates of training attendance and completion among guests
