Motion By The Ocean Inc
Motion by the Ocean Inc is a community-focused not-for-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing, inclusion, and independence of vulnerable and isolated individuals, particularly seniors and women. Rooted in compassion and community connection, we develop innovative programs that foster social engagement, mobility, and access to essential services.
Our flagship initiative, Cycling Without Age Sorrento (CWAS), offers gentle, inclusive trishaw rides that bring joy and connection to seniors. Running daily between Mullaloo and Trigg, CWAS helps seniors—many of whom live independently but face social isolation and limited mobility—reconnect with their neighbourhoods, enjoy the outdoors, and share precious moments with family and friends, often including grandchildren. These rides promote trust, emotional wellbeing, and a renewed sense of community belonging. We also run a regional program in Kalgoorlie, extending these benefits to seniors in more remote areas.
Beyond cycling, Motion by the Ocean Inc is committed to holistic support through companion programs such as Moving Food, which tackles food insecurity by redistributing surplus food to vulnerable households.
Together, our programs create meaningful opportunities for connection, dignity, and support—empowering individuals to thrive rather than merely survive. We believe that small acts of kindness and inclusion ripple out to build stronger, more resilient communities.
Project Summary
The Spare Parts, Strong Hearts Initiative supports the ongoing sustainability and reliability of our flagship program, Cycling Without Age Sorrento (CWAS). CWAS offers gentle, inclusive trishaw rides that empower seniors and vulnerable community members to reconnect with their neighbourhoods, enjoy the outdoors, and foster social inclusion. These rides build confidence, restore dignity, and create meaningful intergenerational connections.
To maintain the frequency and quality of these rides, our trishaws must be kept in excellent working order. Like all vehicles, they need regular maintenance and replacement parts to ensure safety and reliability. The costs of sourcing and fitting spare parts can be significant and unpredictable, causing downtime when repairs are delayed.
With our preferred bike mechanics unable to meet our timelines consistently, it’s vital to upskill volunteers to perform basic repairs and part replacements. This approach will improve service continuity and reduce reliance on external support.
This initiative seeks funding to establish a dedicated resource pool for essential trishaw components. It will reduce repair wait times, minimize service disruptions, and allow volunteers to focus on delivering safe, joyful rides to community members daily.
By investing in Spare Parts, Strong Hearts, we ensure CWAS continues providing consistent, accessible, and life-enriching experiences. This investment supports not only equipment but also the hearts of those we serve and the strength of our connected community.
Project Outcomes
The Spare Parts, Strong Hearts Initiative is expected to significantly improve the consistency and quality of Cycling Without Age Sorrento (CWAS) rides, resulting in several key outcomes.
First, by reducing downtime associated with maintenance and repairs, seniors will benefit from more regular and reliable access to trishaw rides. This increased availability will foster greater social inclusion and reduce feelings of isolation among vulnerable seniors and will allow for better confidence with our volunteer co-hort.
Second, the initiative will empower volunteers by providing them with dependable equipment, improving their experience and sustaining their commitment. Volunteer retention and satisfaction are critical to delivering ongoing rides and expanding the program’s reach.
Third, with a well-maintained fleet, CWAS can increase the number of rides offered daily between Mullaloo and Trigg, and in our regional program in Kalgoorlie, enhancing community impact both locally and regionally.
Finally, this initiative strengthens our capacity to serve vulnerable women and children through the companion Moving Food program, by ensuring CWAS remains a stable and thriving part of Motion by the Ocean Inc’s suite of services.
Overall, the Spare Parts, Strong Hearts Initiative will help build a more resilient, inclusive community—enabling us to bring ongoing joy, connection, and dignity to those who need it most.
