Project Summary
Starting school is a critical milestone, yet many children enter the classroom with undiagnosed developmental challenges simply because their families cannot afford the assessments required to diagnose.
This project will fund a tailored, comprehensive assessment for a vulnerable child entering school, ensuring their individual strengths and needs are clearly identified before their first day. The assessment will provide practical recommendations for parents and the school, enabling the right supports and adjustments to be in place from the outset. With a diagnosis, the family will likely gain access to NDIS funding for the ongoing therapy supports required, giving the child the best possible foundation to learn, participate, and thrive.
Project Outcomes
We aim to ensure one child enters their first year of school with a clear understanding of their individual needs and the right supports in place from the very beginning.
We will know this has been achieved when the child has completed a comprehensive assessment, potentially resulting in a diagnosis, the school is equipped with evidence-based strategies to support the child’s learning, participation, and wellbeing. Ultimately, success means the child starts school feeling supported, understood, and ready to engage. A bonus would be NDIS funding to cover the cost of ongoing therapies to support the child.
