Nowra Youth Centre (NYC) is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space where young people can access support, advocacy, and referrals to other essential services. Our team of qualified Youth Workers takes a non-judgmental, “no wrong door” approach, ensuring every young person feels heard, valued, and supported.

Beyond support services, NYC offers a variety of free programs and activities that promote social connection, life skills, and personal growth. We run regular drop-in sessions, skills-based workshops, and school holiday programs, creating a space where young people can have fun, build confidence, and engage with their community in a safe environment.
As the only dedicated youth hub in Nowra, NYC plays a vital role in fostering belonging, empowerment, and resilience for young people across the Shoalhaven region, ensuring they have somewhere to turn, no matter their circumstances.

Project Summary

Nowra Youth Centre is seeking funding to rejuvenate the exterior of our building to create a more welcoming, safe, and youth-friendly space for the local community. The project will benefit young people aged 12-24 who access the centre for support, programs, and social connection, as well as the broader Nowra community.

Currently, the building appears run-down and uninviting, with closed blinds giving the impression that we are shut. This is due to privacy and safety concerns, as the centre is located opposite the police station and next to a crisis refuge, where individuals experiencing distress have occasionally directed aggression toward our clients.

Funding will be used to upgrade the building’s exterior, including murals, painting, privacy solutions (e.g., one-way window film, landscaping), signage, outdoor seating, and improved lighting. This grant will provide [full or partial] funding, with additional contributions sought through sponsorships and in-kind support.

By enhancing the appearance of the centre, we will increase youth engagement, foster community pride, and create a safer, more inclusive space for young people to access vital services.

Project Outcomes

This funding will directly support hundreds of young people in Nowra by making the youth centre a more inviting and safe space.

Through visible improvements, including murals, privacy solutions, and upgraded signage, the project will:
– Increase accessibility and engagement, encouraging more young people to visit and participate in programs.
– Enhance safety by reducing external disturbances while maintaining an open, welcoming look.
– Improve community perception, strengthening partnerships and encouraging local involvement.
– Foster youth ownership & belonging within the Shoalhaven community.
