Regenerate supports families rebuilding their lives after fleeing family and domestic violence. Our vision is a future where every family leaving violence can rebuild their lives in a safe, stable and dignified home. Our mission is to restore dignity, stability and hope by transforming empty houses into fully established homes for women and children transitioning from crisis accommodation into safe housing along with establishing a Children's Activities Fund.

Each year thousands of women and children leave violent homes with few possessions. After a period in crisis accommodation, many move into long-term housing that is completely empty and lacking essential household items. This stage of recovery is one of the most vulnerable; families are managing trauma, financial hardship and the practical challenges of rebuilding their lives. Without support, establishing a functional home can take weeks or months, prolonging stress and instability.

Regenerate addresses this critical gap by providing brand-new, laundered and fully assembled bedding and essential household items, ensuring families can walk into a safe and functional home immediately. By removing the burden of sourcing and assembling basic necessities, our model allows parents and children to focus on stabilisation, recovery and rebuilding routine. This dignity-centred approach aligns with trauma-informed practice and helps accelerate the transition from crisis to safety.

Our current priorities are to expand the number of families we support each year, strengthen partnerships with referral agencies, and build a diversified philanthropic funding base.

Project Summary

The Children’s Activities Fund proposes a $225,000, two-year philanthropic investment to provide 75 children recovering from family violence with two-year scholarships supporting participation in extracurricular activities such as sport, dance, music, Scouts/Guides, or community programs. Administered by Regenerate, this initiative is the first of its kind in Australia—and globally—to directly fund ongoing pro‑social activities specifically for children affected by family violence. Each child will receive up to $3,000 ($1,500 per year) to cover registration fees, equipment, uniforms, and transport, enabling them to explore and sustain activities that foster stability, confidence, and belonging during recovery.

The fund addresses a well‑defined systemic gap: existing government and crisis programs (FVFSPs, EVP, Children’s Resource Program, Get Active Kids Voucher) provide short‑term or crisis aid but no sustained funding for extracurricular engagement. Developed in response to strong evidence and stakeholder demand, the initiative builds on research showing that structured activities and social connection are protective factors supporting children’s mental health, resilience, and intergenerational recovery. A dedicated coordinator will manage community partnerships and ensure trauma‑informed implementation, while technology infrastructure will support transparent, direct‑to‑supplier payment and robust accountability. This approach maintain safety and oversight through case manager referrals aligned with the MARAM framework. Ultimately, the Fund will restore continuity, normalcy, and social connection for children rebuilding their lives after family violence.

Project Outcomes

The Children’s Activities Fund is designed to produce measurable wellbeing, social, and community outcomes for children and families recovering from family violence. Over two years, 75 children will experience consistent engagement in community activities, supporting improved mental health, confidence, and belonging. Anticipated child‑level outcomes include strengthened self‑esteem, emotional regulation, social connection, and participation in safe peer environments—identified in national and international research as key protective factors against trauma and intergenerational disadvantage.

For parents, the program supports stability and recovery by fostering positive routines, community networks, and shared family experiences. Case managers report that such engagement reduces isolation, supports parenting confidence, and contributes to overall family resilience.

At a community level, the project demonstrates an innovative, scalable model that bridges the gap between family violence recovery and children’s community participation. It is expected to deepen partnerships between Regenerate, local clubs, and community organisations across Victoria, creating trauma‑informed pathways into sport, arts, and community life.

Evaluation metrics will include participation rates, sustained engagement across both years, qualitative feedback from children, families, and case managers, and evidence of improved social, emotional, and developmental wellbeing. Donor and Board reports will benchmark outcomes against baseline data and contribute to the national evidence base on post‑violence recovery.

Long‑term, the initiative seeks to influence broader policy and philanthropic practice—establishing extracurricular participation as a recognised component of child recovery from family violence and paving the way for future expansion beyond Victoria.
