Project Summary

Connected to Country is a groundbreaking listening experience amplifying the wisdom of Australian First Nations Elders, custodians of the world’s oldest living culture. More than a podcast, it is designed to foster intergenerational storytelling, revitalising relationships between Elders and young Mob.

Each episode will transport and ground listeners in Country, as they hear Elders discuss the wisdom of the natural world, reveal practices for cultural survival and environmental stewardship, and ultimately confront the urgent and interconnected challenges of the climate crisis.

Dreamed up by GARUWA, a First Nations-led impact-driven storytelling company and Audiocraft leaders in immersive, sound-rich podcast production, Connected to Country will be co-created with young Indigenous people from across the Country.

Project Outcomes

A landmark community education and cultural revitalisation project, Connected to Country will:
— Activate cultural revitalisation, preserving Elders’ Oral Knowledges
— Provide young Mob with skills for life
— Generate Indigenous digital cultural preservation practices
— Train young people in podcast production skills and techniques
— Strengthen relationships within and between
First Nations communities
— Foster understanding between Aboriginal and non-Indigenous communities
— Unlock tools for addressing climate change
— Expand education opportunities

The constellation of stories will be hosted on an interactive website, major podcast distribution channels, community radio stations and public archives to ensure wide and diverse reach that enables these vital knowledges to be available to Australians for generations to come.
