Generation Australia
Generation Australia is a non-profit organisation with the mission of preparing, placing and supporting people into life-changing careers that would otherwise be inaccessible to them.
We design and run training & pre-employment programs to equip people with the skills, knowledge, tools and confidence to launch careers in in-demand industries. Our programs include technical and soft skills training, mentorship, wellbeing support, employment readiness training, other wraparound services and job placement support to set participants up for long-term success. We primarily work with individuals who are unemployed, under-employed or at demonstrable risk of unemployment, including women, youth, people with disabilities, First Nations people, parents returning to work, CALD communities and more.
All programs are built in close collaboration with employers, to ensure they are responsive to the needs of today’s job market and provide employers with a pipeline of high quality, motivated and diverse talent.
Since our inception in 2019, we have trained over 2100 job-seekers from underserved communities in our pre-employment programs, with over 400 organisations across Australia having hired our program graduates.
Project Summary
This project will fund the design and development of three integrated, scalable employment tools to support over 3,500 jobseekers from disadvantaged backgrounds over five years. These resources will break down barriers to employment and equip participants with the skills and support needed to thrive in the workforce.
IT Support Pre-Employment Program; a comprehensive training package, including
- eLearning modules.
- facilitator guides.
- real-world projects.
- and soft skills content, designed to prepare jobseekers with no prior tech experience for entry-level IT careers.
Enhanced Employment Readiness Content; revamped training modules covering:
- job search skills.
- resume writing.
- interview preparation.
- and professional communication tailored to the needs of jobseekers facing structural disadvantage.
Digital Job Readiness Repository; a centralised online platform providing practical job search and workplace readiness tools to graduates of pre-employment programs. This content hub will support over 2,000 jobseekers, for both alumni and new graduates, over two years.
The project will be co-designed with input from employers like Microsoft and Accenture and jobseekers with lived experience to ensure alignment with real-world hiring needs.
Project Outcomes
This initiative is designed to achieve deep, measurable impact for disadvantaged jobseekers by improving their readiness for the workforce. Based on Generation Australia’s strong track record, we expect:
Short-term outcomes: Completion of the three core design workstreams (IT program, job readiness content, and repository) within 12 months; high learner engagement and integration across Generation Australia’s national program portfolio.
Medium-term outcomes: Over 3,500 jobseekers equipped with tools and training to improve their employability. For the IT program, we anticipate an 80% graduation rate and 70% job placement within 6 months, in line with our historical benchmarks.
Long-term outcomes: Increased long-term employment retention and workforce inclusion for people from CALD backgrounds, women, First Nations people, and those experiencing long-term unemployment targeting 80% retention 12 months post placement.
Generation will track engagement, NPS (Net Promoter Scores), graduate outcomes, employment results and access to our job readiness platform to monitor performance, refine content, and ensure ongoing relevance.
This project will create enduring tools that can be scaled across Australia—significantly increasing employment opportunities for jobseekers who need it most.
