Georges River Life Care
Georges River Life Care is a community-based not-for-profit organisation committed to supporting individuals and families experiencing hardship across the Georges River and Liverpool regions of Sydney. Established to respond to local social needs, Life Care provides practical support, connection, and pathways toward stability and wellbeing.
Our work focuses on supporting people experiencing financial hardship, social isolation, domestic and family violence, housing insecurity, and barriers to employment. Through a combination of direct assistance and community-building programs, Life Care seeks to restore dignity, build resilience, and strengthen community belonging.
Key programs include Community Relief and Emergency Relief, which provide food hampers and practical support to hundreds of households each year; Case Management and Legal Support Clinics, which assist individuals navigating complex challenges; and Community Connect initiatives that create opportunities for connection through shared meals, activities and support networks.
Life Care also delivers programs such as ArtsLife, creative workshops, and community events that foster inclusion and wellbeing.
In 2024 alone, the Peakhurst site supported hundreds of casework and emergency relief appointments and distributed thousands of food hampers to local families in need. Life Care works in partnership with local schools, community organisations, businesses, and service providers to ensure support is accessible and responsive to emerging needs.
With a strong volunteer base and deep connections to the local community, Georges River Life Care is committed to delivering compassionate, practical, and sustainable support that strengthens individuals, families, and the broader community.
Project Summary
Georges River Life Care will deliver a therapeutic songwriting workshop for 10–12 women in the Georges River community who have experienced domestic and family violence. The workshop will be facilitated by an award-winning international songwriter who is also a qualified trauma counsellor, ensuring the process is both creatively engaging and trauma-informed.
Women who have experienced domestic violence often face ongoing challenges including trauma, isolation, loss of confidence and difficulty rebuilding their sense of identity. While crisis and practical support services are essential, there is also a strong need for opportunities that support emotional healing, self-expression and reconnection with others.
Through this workshop, participants will be guided through a collaborative songwriting process, exploring storytelling, lyric writing and themes of resilience, hope and recovery. Creative expression through music is widely recognised as a powerful tool in trauma recovery, helping individuals process complex emotions, regain their voice and build confidence in a safe environment.
The workshop will culminate in the creation of an original song written collaboratively by the participants, which will be performed at the Life Care “Sleeping Rough” Corporate Fundraising Dinner at Club Rivers on 26 June. This performance will respectfully amplify the voices of women with lived experience while raising awareness of domestic violence within the broader community.
This project complements Life Care’s existing casework and community support programs by offering a creative and empowering pathway for healing, connection and hope.
Project Outcomes
This project aims to deliver meaningful social and emotional outcomes for women who have experienced domestic and family violence, while also raising awareness within the broader Georges River community.
For the 10–12 women participating in the songwriting workshop, the expected outcomes include increased confidence, improved emotional wellbeing and a strengthened sense of connection with others who share similar experiences. Through guided creative expression, participants will have the opportunity to process aspects of their personal journey in a safe and supportive environment. The collaborative nature of songwriting will encourage peer support, helping reduce feelings of isolation and fostering a sense of belonging.
Participants will also gain new creative and personal development skills, including storytelling, lyric writing and creative collaboration. The experience of contributing to a shared artistic outcome can help rebuild a sense of voice, agency and self-worth following experiences of trauma.
A key outcome of the project will be the creation of an original song written collectively by the participants, reflecting themes of resilience, healing and hope. The performance of this song at the Sleeping Rough fundraising dinner will respectfully amplify the voices of women with lived experience and help raise awareness of domestic and family violence within the community.
For the wider community, the project aims to encourage greater understanding, empathy and support for women recovering from domestic violence, while demonstrating the positive role that creative programs can play in healing, empowerment and community connection.
