James Cook University (JCU) is Australia’s only university established to focus on the unique issues of Northern Australia and the Tropics. Our mission is to create a better future for life in the Tropics and beyond through education and research that delivers impact both locally and globally.

JCU serves a uniquely diverse student body that reflects the regional, rural, and remote communities across our vast catchment. Nationally, JCU has the highest proportion of students from regional and remote areas, the second-highest proportion of Indigenous students, and one of the highest proportions of students from low socio-economic backgrounds. In 2023, 70% of our undergraduates were the first in their family to attend university, and 87% came from regional or remote locations.

JCU’s research is internationally recognised, addressing critical challenges of the Tropics and beyond. Our focus areas include:

• Advancing Health and Well-being in the Tropics
• Thriving Tropical Marine & Terrestrial Ecosystems & Environments
• Sustainable & Resilient Regional & Tropical Economies
• Enriching People, Communities & Societies of the Tropics
• Elevating & Supporting Indigenous Futures

At JCU, your support can create life-changing scholarships and drive world-leading research in the Tropics.
