Campfire Healing Indigenous Corporation Campfire Healing Indigenous Corporation

Campfire Healing Indigenous Corporation is a First Nations–led, community-controlled charity based in Mount Isa, Queensland. Our mission is to reconnect people with culture, strengthen resilience, and create sustainable futures through Aboriginal knowledge, healing practices, and on-Country programs.

We address the urgent need for culturally safe pathways to wellbeing, environmental sustainability, and economic participation. Many remote Aboriginal communities face barriers to health care, digital inclusion, and employment. By drawing on ancient bush medicine knowledge, digital storytelling, and intergenerational teaching, we provide practical, community-owned solutions.

Our current priorities include:
• Healing on Country Camps blending bush medicine, cultural education, and mental health support.
• Ngurru Mirrka – Healing the Body: a natural skincare and wellness enterprise that creates jobs while protecting and promoting Aboriginal bush medicine.
• Digital Skills & Storytelling programs that connect remote communities to new markets and amplify First Nations voices.
• Environmental Sustainability Initiatives such as traditional fire management, bush regeneration, and climate resilience projects.

Funding will strengthen our ability to deliver these initiatives, expand employment pathways for Aboriginal youth, and protect traditional ecological knowledge. Already, we have delivered sold-out community workshops, partnered with local councils and Aboriginal organisations, and developed products stocked across regional outlets.

As a registered charity with DGR endorsement, Campfire Healing Indigenous Corporation is uniquely placed to deliver measurable impact—healing people and Country while building sustainable futures led by Aboriginal knowledge.

Project Summary

Ngurru Mirrka: Healing Country, Healing People is a First Nations–led initiative that brings together cultural knowledge, community wellbeing, and environmental sustainability. Grounded in Aboriginal bush medicine and cultural practices, this project will deliver Healing on Country Camps, community workshops, and bush regeneration activities across Mount Isa and surrounding First Nations communities.

We are addressing the urgent need for culturally safe health pathways, intergenerational knowledge transfer, and stronger connections to Country. Many Aboriginal communities face barriers to accessing culturally relevant health and wellbeing services, while traditional ecological knowledge is at risk of being lost. By creating spaces where Elders, youth, and families come together, we ensure this knowledge is protected, celebrated, and passed on.

Through hands-on activities—such as bush medicine harvesting, natural product making, digital storytelling, and environmental restoration—participants will strengthen their cultural identity, improve wellbeing, and contribute to climate resilience. The project will also support youth employment pathways through training in digital media, bush medicine enterprise, and environmental care.

Funding will allow us to expand our programs, employ local Aboriginal facilitators, and provide resources to deliver culturally led healing activities. With strong community partnerships and a proven record of delivering sold-out workshops and impactful projects, Campfire Healing Indigenous Corporation is well placed to lead this work.

By healing people and healing Country together, Ngurru Mirrka will create lasting cultural, social, and environmental impact for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Project Outcomes

The Ngurru Mirrka: Healing Country, Healing People project aims to create measurable cultural, social, and environmental benefits for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. By the end of the project, we expect to see strengthened connections to Country, improved wellbeing for participants, and increased recognition of the value of Aboriginal knowledge in addressing health and environmental challenges.

What we are trying to achieve:
• Wellbeing & Healing: Participants experience improved physical and mental health through bush medicine, cultural practices, and healing on Country.
• Cultural Knowledge Transfer: Elders pass on bush medicine and ecological knowledge to youth, ensuring cultural continuity.
• Environmental Care: Regeneration of bushland and protection of flora used in cultural healing.
• Employment & Skills: Aboriginal youth gain training in cultural enterprise, digital storytelling, and environmental work, building pathways to employment.
• Community Strength: Stronger cultural identity, pride, and resilience across participating communities.

How we will know we have achieved this:
• Participant feedback and evaluation surveys capturing improvements in wellbeing, cultural learning, and community pride.
• Number of community members engaged in camps, workshops, and activities.
• Documentation of cultural knowledge through storytelling, video, and digital archives.
• Tangible outputs such as bush medicine products, environmental restoration activities, and digital media content.
• New employment and training opportunities created within the project.

Success will be measured through both community voices and clear, trackable outcomes, ensuring accountability while centring First Nations perspectives of healing and care.
