Connecting Mob Indigenous Corporation
Connecting Mob Indigenous Corporation is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and registered for GST. The organisation was established to strengthen and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through culturally safe, community-led responses.
Connecting Mob operates on the principle of “supporting Mob through Mob.” Our work is grounded in lived experience, cultural understanding and strong community connection. We recognise the challenges many of our people face and walk alongside individuals and families without judgement, offering guidance, advocacy and culturally safe support.
Through our program model, we provide a mobile domestic and family violence (DFV) case management using an Aboriginal-designed Cultural Action Plan that focuses on cultural, holistic wrap-around support. This approach centres culture, safety and empowerment, ensuring community members receive advocacy, practical support and culturally informed planning that strengthens wellbeing, connection and long-term stability.
While we are a small organisation in the early stages, we bring strong professional experience, lived understanding and genuine motivation to support our people. Connecting Mob Indigenous Corporation was created for the right reasons—to walk alongside community and support individuals and families on their journey with respect, compassion and cultural strength.
Project Summary
Safe Women Strong Families is a culturally safe domestic and family violence (DFV) support program designed specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and families in Ipswich and surrounding communities.
Delivered through Connecting Mob Aboriginal Corporation, the program will provide holistic, trauma-informed support, including domestic and family violence case management, safety planning, advocacy, and referrals to appropriate services. Support will be delivered through both mobile outreach and private in-house appointments to ensure women can access assistance in safe and culturally appropriate environments.
The program aims to improve safety, wellbeing, and stability for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women experiencing domestic and family violence by strengthening connections to support services, increasing safety planning, and promoting culturally informed healing and resilience.
Safe Women Strong Families aligns with national priorities under the Closing the Gap, particularly Target 13 to reduce family violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children, and Target 14 to improve social and emotional wellbeing.
The pilot program will initially support 5–10 women over a six-month period while establishing strong referral partnerships with local health, housing, legal, and counselling services. Outcomes will include increased client safety, improved access to culturally appropriate support services, and strengthened community connections.
This pilot will demonstrate the effectiveness of Aboriginal-led, culturally grounded responses to domestic and family violence and support future program expansion through sustainable funding.
Project Outcomes
There is a clear need for culturally safe, Aboriginal-led domestic and family violence support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and families in Ipswich. Safe Women Strong Families will address this gap by providing culturally informed case management, safety planning, advocacy, and referrals in a safe and trusted environment that respects culture and community connections.
