Spirit of Woman
Spirit of Woman is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to mitigating the devastation caused by domestic and family violence, as well as financial abuse. Our flagship initiative, The Place of Courage, is Australia’s first public artwork and gathering space of its kind, devoted to victims and survivors of domestic and family violence.
The Place of Courage seeks to reshape societal conversations surrounding domestic violence and financial abuse. It serves as a beacon of hope and healing for survivors. By fostering connections among those affected, we reinforce the message that they are not alone in their struggles and that support is readily available.
Project Summary
The Place of Courage at Bonython Park Tulya Wardli is a public art project raising awareness of domestic violence. It offers a space for healing, reflection, and education. In partnership with Adelaide City Council, we aim to raise $70,000 in Stage 1 to build the memorial and bring this vision to life. Later in Stage 2 a further $200,000 will develop the surrounding gardens and provide lifetime maintenance.
Project Outcomes
Domestic and family violence (DFV) has long been a private issue, suffered behind closed doors.
The Place of Courage seeks to change that. By establishing a permanent visible tribute to the victims and survivors of DFV, we as a community, are publicly acknowledging that it exists, and it is our problem.
